San Pascual

A 16th century shepherd who became a Franciscan lay brother, San Pascual served as a gardener, porter and cook. His devotion to the blessed Eucharist was exceptional and he is known for many miraculous cures. In Mexico and New Mexico, San Pascual is the patron of the kitchen and cooks and frequently is pictured at some culinary task dressed in the brown robes of a Franciscan. To display an icon of this saint in your kitchen insures good eating! Cuchama depicts a jolly San Pascual stirring up a batch of cookies, bizcochitos, no doubt. His feast day is May 17.
