Saint Anthony
and the Pueblo Child
Another story of Saint Anthony of Padua tells of an uncle who observed the young man laughing and playing in the garden with an infant who kissed him, then disappeared, such that it was thought the baby Jesus himself blessed the saint. Cuchama interprets the story here, showing the child as a Native American from the Taos Pueblo and the lily of purity, a local variety. Saint Anthony is the patron of lost articles, and those in debt. His feast day is June 13.
